BAREFOOT KUATA ISLAND RESORT

The Awakening Shark Dive and Awakening Shark Dive Day Cruise:
The Awakening Shark Dive is a wow experience that gets you up close and personal with a resident population of Bull Sharks and other shark species in Fiji's stunning Yasawa Island. The experience is available to in-house guests at Barefoot Kuata Island Resort or for those staying in the Nadi & Denarau they can also experience the Awakening Shark Dive on a day cruise basis booking with Barefoot Shark Encounters.

The 'Awakening Shark Dive' is a new-age Fiji Shark Dive designed by Marine Biologist and shark authority Dr. Thomas Vignaud PHD. Over 3 years in its planning, design and now operating for over 10 years 'The Awakening Shark Dive' is a thrilling adventure that both certified and introductory (non-certified) divers can experience.

Ecological best practice ensures the dive has no negative impact on the sharks, combined with strict OHS best practice to ensure diver safety. Increased sharks’ habitation in Yawake Reef has had a positive impact on the overall health of the reef eco-system. Since its inception marine life including even coral coverage has grown and flourished. The Awakening Shark Dive has created employment opportunities for residents of Fiji's more isolated Yasawa Islands with proceeds from the Awakening Dive contributing to ongoing shark conservation research with additional contributions made to a local school.

There are 2 Awakening Dives daily operating from Kuata Island, 8am for certified divers at 20m and 11am 10m for both certified, introductory divers (no certification required) and day cruise guests who are also certified.
