SIX SENSES FIJI

Coral Reef Rehabilitation: At Seventh Heaven Fiji, our Coral Sustainability Program is dedicated to protecting and restoring Fiji’s coral reefs. In collaboration with marine biologists, we focus on identifying resilient coral species that can withstand the impacts of climate change and rising ocean temperatures. Since the program’s launch, we have successfully planted over 5,000 corals and aim to plant 10,000 more over the next two years, contributing to the regeneration of these vital ecosystems.

Guests play an essential role in our sustainability efforts through engaging in eco-friendly activities that promote environmental awareness. These activities include snorkeling and our coral planting program, where guests actively participate in coral restoration. To further protect marine life, we enforce a no-fins policy for snorkeling, ensuring minimal disturbance to coral reefs and surrounding ecosystems. Together with our guests, we continue working towards preserving and enhancing the health of Fiji’s marine environments.

VATUVARA PRIVATE ISLAND - VATUVARA FOUNDATION

Coral Reef Rehabilitation: The Vatuvara Foundation's Coral Rehabilitation Program at Vatuvara Private Islands resort offers guests a unique opportunity to engage in marine conservation efforts while enjoying the stunning beauty of the surrounding waters. Designed to educate participants on the critical role of coral reefs, the program emphasizes their importance as vital ecosystems that support marine biodiversity and provide coastal protection. Through informative discussions and hands-on activities, guests will explore the innovative techniques and sustainability practices employed by the Foundation.

Guests will also have the chance to assist in cultivating heat-tolerant coral fragments in underwater nurseries. This interactive experience allows participants to learn about coral biology, the threats they face, and the restoration techniques being utilized. Running from May to October, the program is carefully timed to minimize stress on the corals and maximize their chances of survival. Participants will play an active role in transplanting the corals onto degraded reef areas, contributing directly to restoration efforts while experiencing the vibrant underwater world through snorkeling. In the summer months, guests can help maintain the coral nurseries and assist in creating artificial reef structures. This involvement fosters a deeper connection to the ocean and a sense of responsibility for preserving its health. LIKULIKU LAGOON RESORT - AHURA RESORT CONSERVATION FOUNDATION

Reef Stars: As part of one of the Ahura Resort Conservation Foundation pillars – “Below the Sea”, in support of the Chiefly designated marine “tabu” (protection) around Malolo Island, a partnership was forged with the global consumer goods and confectionary company MARS and their ground-breaking Mars
Assisted Reef Restoration System (MARRS) - called “Reef Stars”.
These webs of Reef Stars stabilise loose rubble and provide a strong platform on which out-planted coral can grow. After a few years, the coral completely overgrows and engulfs the Reef Stars, which become fully integrated into the reef structure. This creates new habitats for fish and invertebrates and encourages the settlement of additional native corals. As natural ecological processes kick back into motion, the whole reef comes back to life. Resort guests can join the Marine Biologist Team when they plant these Reef Stars or on one of their regular “health checks” to monitor coral growth and system viability.
• Available everyday of the week
• Complimentary
• No age limitation
