Singapore Stay: More than a stopover
Ten reasons Singapore deserves more than a connection flight
If you’re flying through Singapore and calling it “just a stopover”, we need to have a little chat. This is one of those cities that completely resets your expectations. One minute you’re landing, the next you’re eating something incredible, wandering a gleaming waterfront, or finding a heritage neighbourhood you wish you’d allowed more time for. Singapore more than a stopover? Absolutely.
Whether you've got 48 hours or a full week, House of Travel Singapore specialists has the best Singapore experiences to put on your list right now.
What can you do in Singapore?
Singapore packs world-class attractions, incredible food, vibrant neighbourhoods and family-friendly experiences into one compact, easy-to-navigate city. You can cover a lot in 48 hours - or easily fill a week.
Things to do in Singapore
Gardens by the Bay
Where Singapore’s skyline meets its soul and the supertrees steal the show
A true Singapore must-do. Wander through the Cloud Forest, where the moment you walk in and the 35-metre indoor waterfall hits you is something you don't forget. The Flower Dome's cooler and drier, more of a slow wander, but worth every minute. Then walk the OCBC Skyway: 128 metres of treetop walkway, 22 metres up, above the sweeping views across Marina Bay. The Supertrees are just as striking in daylight as they are after dark when they lit up. It's a completely different experience, and the 7:45pm light show is free.
Resorts World Sentosa
One island, endless reasons to stay longer than planned
If you’re travelling with kids, teens, or anyone who likes their holidays big and fun, this is an easy win. Universal Studios Singapore, Adventure Cove Waterpark, Singapore Oceanarium and Harry Potter: Visions of Magic are all here, so you can turn one day into a very full one but we recommend planning to spend at least 3 days here to make the most of it.
Singapore Flyer
The best 165 metres you’ll ever spend above a city
For a proper sense of the city’s scale, get up high. The Singapore Flyer rises 165 metres above Marina Bay, with views across the skyline and, on a clear day, beyond Singapore's borders. Go at golden hour. The city looks completely different when everything's catching the last of the light.
Hawker centres
The cheapest Michelin-worthy meal you’ll ever pull up a plastic chair for
This is where Singapore really gets under your skin, in a good way. Pull up a plastic chair, order whatever has the longest queue, and don’t overthink it. Hawker centres are where Singapore's food culture actually lives. Laksa, Hainanese chicken rice, chilli crab, satay are fast, affordable and wildly good. The tissue-packet seat-saving system, known locally as “choping”, is all part of the experience.
Vintage Vespa sidecar tour
The backstreets, the stories, and the Singapore most visitors fly straight past
This is the version of Singapore the hop-on-hop-off bus doesn't show you. A smart pick if you want to see a different side of the city. You’ll zip through backstreets in a 1960s sidecar, moving through heritage neighbourhoods like Chinatown, Little India, Kampong Glam and neighbourhoods that most visitors miss like Kampong Glam and Tiong Bahru, with a guide doing the storytelling as you go. It’s fun, a bit different, and far more memorable than another standard city tour.
Tiong Bahru heritage stroll
Art deco, kaya toast, and a neighbourhood that moves at its own pace
Come hungry. Tiong Bahru is Singapore's oldest housing estate. If you like your city breaks with a bit of character, make time for Tiong Bahru. This historic neighbourhood is known for its low-rise 1930s Art Deco blocks, old-school markets, independent cafes and some of the best kaya toast and kopi on the island. Come hungry and leave a bit of room for a wander.
Night bumboat from Clarke Quay
Singapore after dark, from the water. This is the view you came for
This is one of the easiest ways to get your bearings. Get on the water at dusk. These traditional bumboats cruise past Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and out toward Marina Bay, with the skyline doing its best work after sunset. Do this at dusk, then stay on for dinner or a drink by the river.
Museum of Ice Cream
Immersive, delicious, and completely unbothered about being serious
Bright colours, unlimited tastings, installations you'll actually want to photograph. It's part immersive experience, part dessert stop and part photo playground, which makes it a very easy yes for families and anyone travelling with kids or teens. Book timed entry online. Walk-ups are actually sold out by noon.
Marina Bay cycle
The waterfront at sunrise or golden hour — two wheels, zero regrets
Singapore is one of the easiest cities to explore on two wheels. Rent a bike and the Marina Bay loop is proof. Ride past Marina Bay Sands, the Merlion and the Helix Bridge, preferably early in the morning or just before sunset when the heat backs off and the waterfront looks its best. Either way, it's one of Singapore's great free mornings.
Singapore Zoo and Night Safari
Two of the world’s best wildlife experiences, separated by sunset
Treat these as two separate outings in two seperate days if you can. Singapore Zoo's is famous for its open-concept design and is home to more than 4,200 animals. Then after dark, Night Safari shifts the mood completely with tram rides, walking trails and nocturnal wildlife in the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park. It’s one of the best Singapore experiences for families, but adults love it too.
