5 epic Hong Kong experiences you’ll never forget

Unforgettable Adventures & Insider Tips

From its neon-lit skyline to peaceful mountain peaks, Hong Kong is a city of contrasts – and surprises. One minute you’re sipping cocktails above the clouds, the next you’re wandering through a fishing village barely touched by time.

Here are five of our favourite Hong Kong experiences that’ll leave you with goosebumps and a camera roll full of pinch-me moments.

1. Ride the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak

Let’s start at the top – literally. No trip to Hong Kong is complete without a ride on the iconic Peak Tram. It’s been whisking travellers to the summit of Victoria Peak since 1888, and still feels like a bit of magic. The gradient is so steep, it feels like the skyscrapers are leaning backwards as you ascend. At the top you’ll encounter panoramic views that stretch from Kowloon to the South China Sea. Go at sunset to watch the skyline turn golden.

HOT TIP: You’ll find the entrance to the Peak Tram at Garden Road – just follow the signs or ask a friendly local.

2. Drift across the harbour on Aqua Luna

There’s something timeless about a junk boat ride on Victoria Harbour, and Aqua Luna is the most photogenic of the bunch. With its crimson sails and teak decks, this beautifully restored Chinese junk offers a dreamy way to take in the city’s iconic skyline. By day, you’ll float past gleaming towers. By night, it’s a front-row seat to the Symphony of Lights. Sip a cocktail and feel the breeze.

HOT TIP: Cruises depart from Tsim Sha Tsui and Central piers – it’s best to pre-book as it’s wildly popular for good reason.

3. Glide up to Ngong Ping and meet the Big Buddha

A 25-minute cable car ride with floor-to-ceiling views? Don’t mind if we do. The Ngong Ping 360 cable car glides you over lush forests, mountain ridges and the sparkling South China Sea before dropping you at Lantau Island’s spiritual heart. At the top is the awe-inspiring Tian Tan Buddha – also known as the Big Buddha – sitting calmly atop 268 steps. Take your time to explore the Po Lin Monastery, light some incense, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. This one is guaranteed to leave you with lasting memories.

HOT TIP: Go early for fewer crowds and consider a crystal cabin with a glass floor – it’s a thrill and a half!

4. Taste your way through a foodie walking tour

Hong Kong’s food scene is the stuff of legend – and a walking tour is hands down the best way to eat like a local. In Sham Shui Po, you’ll sample everything from fluffy pineapple buns to savoury cheung fun rice rolls, with expert guides sharing the stories behind each dish. It’s loud, lively and absolutely delicious. Come hungry and wear comfy shoes, and don’t be surprised if this becomes your favourite part of the whole trip.

5. Step back in time at Tai O Fishing Village

If you’re craving a change of pace, Tai O is the perfect antidote to the city buzz. This sleepy fishing village on Lantau Island is known for its stilt houses, traditional shrimp paste and tangled alleys filled with drying fish and curious cats. Take a short boat ride to spot pink dolphins (if you’re lucky) or just wander with a herbal tea in hand. It’s rustic, real, and a rare glimpse into old-school Hong Kong life.

HOT TIP: It’s about 20 minutes from Ngong Ping – easy to pair with your Big Buddha visit for a full Lantau day.

“Highlights were Disneyland the evening show is spectacular! It honestly is the happiest place on earth! And the evening cruise on the Aqua Luna an old fashioned Junk Boat, to watch the light show. I highly recommend taking the Cable Car to and from Ngong Ping the view is incredible a a complete 360 view of Hong Kong. At the top you can climb the stairs to see the Giant Budda! I enjoyed some incredible meals while in Hong Kong, its not just about flavour its a whole art here! ”
