6 destinations our consultants can't stop talking about

Northern Lights Seen Through The Woods

The next big thing in travel

We all crave to explore somewhere new and discover hidden gems – here are the six destinations our consultants can’t stop talking about right now.

These trending spots are what holiday dreams are made of—packed with "pinch-me" moments and WOW experiences!!

1. Iceland

Exquisite. Mesmerising. Surreal. Often referred to as ‘The Land of Fire and Ice,’ Iceland’s landscapes evoke a myriad of expressions, each reflecting their stunning power.

Here, every glacier, lagoon, waterfall, erupting geyser and volcanic chamber, not to mention the incredible wildlife, will leave you in awe, making your eyes widen and your jaw drop at every turn. Grab your adventurous spirit and you will be rewarded with a truly magical bucket list holiday experience.

“Don’t miss Gullfoss Falls, Iceland’s most iconic waterfall – both spectacular in winter and summer. If travelling in the summer months, visit the more popular attractions at night. The endless, bright summer nights make for a beautiful, golden hour experience – with less crowds.”

Why we love it:

With it’s largely untouched and enchanting landscapes, Iceland is a nature-lovers paradise and with thrilling experiences, an adventurer’s dream. Despite its name, Iceland isn’t as icy as it may sound and provides both a wonderful summer and winter holiday adventure. Summers are surprisingly mild and green, and you can also expect plenty of daylight hours, especially around midsummer thanks to the ‘midnight sun’. During winter, the longer nights create ideal conditions for viewing the Northern Lights and spectacular frozen waterfalls.

Must- do:

Take your photo as you step across the two tectonic plates –Iceland sits on two continents and is the only place in the world where you can see the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the tectonic plates above ground. Just wrap up warm with an Iceland jumper! The Blue Lagoon provides an extraordinary spa experience - relaxing in the hot pools with snow falling, sipping on mulled wine in the fading light was nothing short of
incredibly perfect.

2. South Korea

South Korea is captivating and it’s little wonder Kiwis are discovering the opportunity to explore the wonders of a destination rich in culture,  experiences, architecture and delicious cuisine.

Explore Seoul’s electrifying streets, the city’s towering Leeum Museum and Gwangjang Market, one of Seoul’s oldest and most vibrant traditional markets is a street food paradise! Discover the tranquillity of historic Bukchon Hanok Village and marvel at temples and explore dramatic coastlines and beach paradises – a holiday in South Korea is full of the unexpected.

“Have a sweet tooth? Keep an eye out for the ice cream on a stick, covered in marshmallow and brûléed just before serving or share a bowl of Bingsu (Korean Shaved Ice). And swap your traditional coffee for a Korean Black Sesame Latte, I was addicted!”

Why we love it:

With direct flights from Auckland, South Korea with its eclectic experiences and unique culture combined with art, history, food, tradition, futurism, coast, mountains and fun … is a fusion of excitement that will be sure to please! Amazing to visit anytime of the year, however, the autumn colours will rival Japan’s cheery blossom season – you must visit Mt Gangcheon Park an easy walk amongst thousands of maple trees, with majestic waterfalls and temples along the way

Must- do:

While in Busan visit Haedong Yonggungsa Temple (Temple by the Sea), one of the most sacred sites in South Korea with beautiful views out to sea. Be sure to take your swimsuit for a quick dip in the Sea
of Japan.

3. Turkey

Turkey is a crossroads of cultures – a place where east meets west, history meets the new world, and incredible architecture rises seamlessly amongst natural wonders. Istanbul is easily one of the world’s trendiest cities right now and will be sure to captivate your heart.

History buffs will appreciate the museums and sacred mosques (just remember you’ll need to cover your shoulders and knees, and ladies to cover your head with a scarf), bustling bazaars with thrill bargain hunters (don’t forget to haggle!), and food lovers will go nuts in the lively culinary spice and food markets.

“Download the Müzekart app after you have purchased your initial museum ticket, which will give you access to other museums across the country with audio guides included. To avoid extra fees, bring your own headset. And speaking of fees, recommend changing your money at the Ziraat Bank ATMs, they offer the cheapest exchange rate fees”

Why we love it:

From the warmth of the people, incredible food, and rich history everywhere — from Gallipoli to the ancient ruins of Ephesus, Turkey is a country that offers an amazing blend of culture, adventure, and hospitality. For a truly unique souvenir purchase the amazingly beautiful and unique Zultanite gemstone – an extraordinarily rare Turkish treasure, only found in one place in the world – Turkey’s remote Anatolian Mountains.

Must- do:

A foodie walking tour – a great way to indulge in delectable Turkish cuisine, from flatbreads to dolmas and melt-in-your- mouth lamb shish kebabs… but recommend you do this it in the early part of your
stay as it’s also a great way to get acquainted with the city. And, treat yourself and stay in a unique and authentic cave hotel.

Highly recommend Cappadocia Caves Hotel in Goreme with its private natural stone rooms and magnificent location in the centre of Cappadocia with incredible views over the city.

4. Costa Rica

Nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, you’ll discover Costa Rica. An enchanting country with a cosmopolitan capital, San Jose with art galleries and charming eateries, but beyond the city you’ll discover stunning landscapes, unexplored regions, active volcanoes, an incredible array of wildlife and countless adventures both on land and at sea.

From jungle ziplines and cloud forests, whitewater rafting to surfing, it’s no wonder Costa Rica is regarded as one of the world’s top adventure capitals.

“Costa Rica is a coffee lover’s dream, with the finest brews grown straight from the plantations. One of our favourites is a coffee tour at Finca Rosa Bianca, a sustainable organic farm. Enhance your visit by pairing the tour with the Coffee Connoisseur’s tasting menu at their farm-to-table restaurant, where you’ll savour at least five delicious courses, each perfectly complemented by their delicious coffee.”

Recommended by Michelle Middleton , House of Travel Whangarei

Why we love it:

The intrepid travellers’ ultimate fantasy: Two coastlines of unspoilt golden sands, a skyline piqued with volcanoes, wildlife galore and ancient tribes in the midst of a dense jungle. Costa Rica is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

Must- do:

Whitewater rafting down the Pacuare River. With thrilling rapids, awe inspiring wilderness, and vibrant wildlife— toucans, monkeys, and blue morpho butterflies set amidst breathtaking ancient rainforests and dramatic, untouched canyons - it’s a must-do experience for adventure junkies and nature lovers alike.

5. Albania

Albania is Europe’s best kept secret … you’ll find amazing food, fascinating cities, beautiful beaches in this off-the-beaten-path Adriatic jewel, all without the large price tag often associated with other European cities. Centuries-old castles, UNESCO-listed hubs and Greek, Roman and Illyrian ruins beckon, while stunning beaches come to life during the summer and snow-capped mountain ranges provide winter fun.

Now’s the time to visit this relatively untapped country while you can because, before you know it, Albania’s peaceful beaches, dramatic scenery and old-world charm will soon become the talk of the town.

“Don’t miss Ksamil’s stunning beaches, you will think you are in Greece! The majority are privately owned, with restaurants and cafes close by, and there are lots of local vendors selling local delights – fresh fruit, donuts and sweet treats. For just a few euros a day you can grab a beach lounger and umbrella – if you arrive after 3pm its even cheaper! Cash is still king in Albania so be sure you have plenty.”

Why we love it:

Albania is a remarkably beautiful and largely undiscovered country, not yet considered a major tourist hotspot by most. With no McDonald’s or Starbucks in sight, it offers plenty of reasons to
visit this hidden treasure: pristine beaches free from crowds, UNESCO World Heritage sites, delightful weather, delicious cuisine, and, best of all, incredibly affordable prices. Imagine Greece or Croatia without the hefty price tag – but don’t wait too long to visit, as this gem won’t stay under the radar for much longer!

Must- do:

Immerse yourself in the culture, enjoy your coffee Albanian style! Coffee served in a small compact glass with a side order of water or Raki (vodka brewed in Albania) – yum.

6. Mexico

So much more than just tacos and tequila, Mexico is a feast for all the senses, colourful and vibrant in every way imaginable. Explore Aztec ruins by day and party by night in the thrillingly chaotic metropolis of Mexico City, appreciate the history of the Mayan civilization as you discover the interior dotted with ancient ruins, jungle, volcanoes, ceremonial sites and uncover one of Mexico’s best-kept secrets – picture perfect beach resorts along the coast. Mexico really does offer it all.

“Take a walking tour of Guanajuato City, where its narrow, winding alleyways will make you think you are in Europe! If you’re visiting in October or early November, don’t miss the chance to experience Mexico’s iconic Day of the Dead celebrations”

Why we love it:

Mexico is undeniably captivating and easily ranks among my
favourite countries to visit. Mexico City, a captivating blend of the old and new is fiesta central, brimming with vibrant colours and rich in traditions ad character. Explore treasured and celebrated sites, stunning beaches, vibrant cities, mouthwatering cuisine and where every day is Taco Tuesday.

Must- do:

Head to the beach! Leave behind the crowded shores of Cancun and discover the Yucatán Peninsula, where ancient civilizations blend with colonial charm amidst a tropical paradise. This vibrant region is home to abundant wildlife, stunning coral reefs, and unique cenotes—rocky sinkholes filled with rainwater, perfect for diving into. Immerse yourself in the region’s rich history by exploring ancient Mayan archaeological sites, with the iconic Chichen Itza being the most renowned.
